The ancient Maya of Mesoamerica used calendars not only for planting and harvesting, but also as a spiritual roadmap for their lives. The birthday of each Mayan child carried a unique tone and aspect of creation which repeated every 260 days. This was so highly valued by the Maya that it formed the child’s first name, and became a touchstone and reminder of the unique contribution of that individual to Mayan society – their life’s purpose.

To honor and focus upon the spiritual intention of each day, a new awareness of time enters our lives – purposeful, clear, unhurried, and life-affirming. We discover a new rhythm that had eluded us, one in which people, opportunities, and resources seem to appear just as they are needed. Coincidence and serendipity become commonplace. The daily spills and churning rapids of our lives begin to flow like a quiet, deep river.

The Mayan personal calendar gives each person the opportunity to create a new relationship with time. When every moment of every day is honored for the sacred purpose it was meant to serve, change and growth occur at the deepest level of our Being. As we are transformed, our relationships are also transformed.

It is ironic that the true purpose of the Mayan calendar is to free us from the illusion of time. As we move into the Now, we experience beauty, love, joy, creativity, and inner peace. We are free.
