Gigantic Sunspot and Upcoming “Ring of Fire”

Sunspot 1040 has grown ten times wider than Earth, or 80,000 miles in diameter. Spaceweather.com received the above sunspot image on January 13, 2010, from Dennis Simmons, Brisbane, Australia: “After the software had processed my data, I was left gasping, astonished by what the (clear air) seeing had allowed me to witness. This is far and away my best-ever high-resolution image of a sunspot.” See Spaceweather.com.
