When The Saints Come Marching In

Many people have wondered how such a simple meditation technique can be so powerful, so I decided that it's time to get personal and reveal the secrets of how this technique came into being.

At the end of this article, you will be able to revisit the meditation chapter. In the meantime, prepare to be shown, not only some of my personal, innermost secrets, but also some never-before known secrets about one of the leading lights in the modern spiritual movement! So, settle in for a deep look into the fascinating world of mystical discovery.

The Enlightenment Meditation is basically an inspiration generator for busy, modern times. Gone are the days when people could spend endless years in a cave seeking the pinnacle of enlightenment. Come to think of it, not many of us today would be too keen on spending years in a cave seeking anything!
Personally, my idea of 'roughing it' is going somewhere almost out into the back of the beyond, but not too far out, and staying at a Holiday Inn that has no wireless Internet!

At the time I was preparing to write the meditation chapter for my latest e-book, "Follow the Yellow Brick Road: A Journey in Consciousness," I found it to be rather a daunting challenge. How could a meditation technique that works fast enough for today's busy world reach any great spiritual depth?
Given the short attention span that has become normal in today's world, how could such a technique possibly be effective?

Throughout my life, I've always been happiest when I find the time to pursue the mystic side of my nature. As early as the age of 10, as a choirboy in my local church, I was fascinated by the performance of the song, "The Lost Chord," which describes an organist who strikes a certain chord that sends him into a mystic state of joy and inspiration. Then, at the age of 16, I started studying metaphysics, and I've never stopped since.

In my twenties, I recognized and closely followed one of the greatest spiritual masters of modern times. Like many great masters, he was little-known and yet had a huge influence on the spiritual state of the world. His name was George King and, for a time, I worked for him both in his home country of England and at his base in Southern California. Later, following the path of my purpose in life, I moved on to independent research and the study of specialized material from other mentors and other realms of existence.

In 2007, which was ten years after the death of George King, I had been wondering about what he used to call the greatest spiritual mystery of all time. It goes as follows: Why, when God is perfection in all ways, did it create the universe and immerse itself into imperfection in order to evolve back to a perfection which it already had? What was the purpose of the journey?

To my surprise, George King responded to my focused thoughts about him and that question by coming to visit me in spirit.
As I started to adjust to the sudden arrival of an unexpected presence in my study, he announced that he had since found the long sought-after answer to this, the greatest mystery of all time. I wrote down the answer and then released it for the benefit of seekers everywhere as part of my e-book, "Discover Your Purpose in Life."

Some weeks later, George King returned to inform me that he had found a guide who was willing to work with me in order to help me develop my ability to perceive information from spiritual sources. "What an lovely surprise," I thought. "He must have been very pleased with my efforts at publishing his answer to the great mystery." Either that, I thought later, or he'd noticed that I'd been awfully slow at getting his message written down!

The truth is, I've never been someone who is interested in listening to guides, and I could sense that he realized that.
I do have a spirit guide, just like everyone does, and I even know his name, but I've never been one to sit around and listen for words of wisdom when I can go and do the inner research and find out the answers for myself.

So, knowing my nature in that respect, he delicately asked me if I might be interested in working with a guide. Then, when he added, "and she is an ascended master," he got me right here!
This was no ordinary spirit guide. This was someone with access to the best spiritual information on the planet! How could I resist? My sense of curiosity was unbridled. "Yes," I gushed, "I'd love to!"

Since then, each day begins at the crack of dawn with my newfound guide patiently feeding me ideas and messages. For my part, I try to stay focused and not wander off into some daydream land, which I have a tendency to do. Well, what can I say? I'm a mystic, and therefore a space cadet who, at the slightest excuse, can drift off somewhere into the ozone layer.
My guide, thankfully, has the patience of Job, and, I must say, my focus has been improving with the constant daily practice.

My wife Dreama follows her own spiritual development sessions each morning. For the last year, she has been keenly pursuing the Kriya Yoga teachings of Yogananda (1893-1952), but sometimes she pops in to meditate with me and the spirit presence of my guide. Like Yogananda, my guide Kala is from India. She went through the initiation of ascension in the year 1956, which is considered recent by ascended master standards, as most of them are centuries old.

One day, Dreama asked my guide, "Do you know Yogananda?"

"Yes, of course." she replied, with some surprise at the question. "We know all the great saints." By "we," she was referring to the association of ascended masters.

Even though Kala has an ascended physical body on another realm of existence, she visits me in a projected form as a spirit guide for our morning spiritual development sessions.
Sometimes, I get a mental glimpse of what she looks like physically. She is quite petite and I just can't avoid my attention being drawn to her eyes. Maybe it's because she's visiting in an energetic body, but her eyes appear so radiant that they're like sunshine!

One day, when I was working on designing The Enlightenment Meditation technique, I discovered another advantage of having a line of communication into the association of ascended masters. I asked my guide Kala to check what I had developed with whoever would be the most appropriate mentor on this subject within the association. The next morning, to my jaw-dropping surprise, Kala arrived along with someone whose name is familiar to many students of spirituality.

He told me that he originally came to Earth many thousands of years ago as an ascended master in order to serve in the association of ascended masters. Sometimes, these masters temporarily give up their ascended state and incarnate into a regular physical body for a specific mission. In his case, he chose to be reborn in France in 1320 AD and to grow up to become a monk who would influence the European emergence from the Dark Ages. Then, he took that body through the initiation of full ascension, which gave it a lifespan of many centuries.

Later, he successfully served as the main inspiration behind the United States Declaration of Independence in 1776, which freed America from external control and began its modern era of self-empowered growth. Then, moving back to France, he worked diligently at influencing reform at the royal court in order to usher in a long-overdue shift to democracy. However, his efforts failed when the famine of 1789 sparked The French Revolution and, with it, the bloodbath that he had worked hard to avoid.

In the late 1800's, he began focusing on the re-emergence of spirituality in the West by influencing what became the Theosophical movement. Today, this ascended master, Saint Germain, works with spiritual groups in order to help inspire the new spirituality which is emerging as Earth transforms into a new level of consciousness.

Finding myself in his presence was a joy-filled surprise. If anyone knew how to fix my proposed meditation technique and make it work right, I felt that he would. In a flash, he modified the technique into something elegantly simple and then answered my questions as to why the simple version would be just as effective, or even more so, than the complex version that I had proposed.

In the technique, I had originally proposed charging the heart chakra as the gateway into spiritual consciousness and then raising that energy to a higher chakra in order to invoke inspiration. He picked the third eye as the correct chakra to use as the higher one and explained why that particular one works the best overall. After he left, I tried his technique out and was surprised at just how effective it was, as well as being easy to use.

Later, I told my wife Dreama about the new technique and she said, "Oh, that's just like one that Yogananda used to teach.
Same idea, straight from the heart chakra to the third eye."

As it turned out, my 'new' technique wasn't quite so new after all, but it was most encouraging to receive validation that it, or a technique very similar to it, is already a proven and powerful technique. From one of the saints, no less!
