Tzolkin Count of Days

Tzolkin Trecena Notes – 1 Vulture (Cib)

Day 196 of the 260 Day Tzolkin
Gregorian Date: August 18, 2016
Year Bearer: 4 Earth (Caban)

Trecenas are thirteen-day periods in the Tzolkin. Each Trecena starts with the Number 1, but with a different Day Glyph. As a wave of the Thirteen Heavens, the underlying energy is governed by the First Day Glyph of the Trecena and influences all thirteen successive Day Glyphs. Being aware of the predominant energy of the First Day of the Trecena, we can align our intentions with that energy and allow our goals to manifest.

This Trecena starts with 1 Cib – Vulture/Owl – Ancient Warrior, Keeper of Wisdom, Defender of Universal Consciousness, Silent Inner Strength of Convictions.

“This glyph signifies the mind in a state of forgiveness and illumination. It is a brain with rays, lines of expansion, reaching out in all directions.” Carlos Barrios The Book of Destiny.

In Mayan cosmology, there were four divine figures called the Bacabs (Bah KAHBS) who personified the four directions and were responsible for holding up the sky in each of the four corners. They were depicted as beekeepers or sometimes even gigantic bees and wore conch shells on their heads. The Maya associated this day sign with the conch shell as its spiral shape symbolizes emergence and rebirth. In many ancient cultures, the spiral represents death and rebirth as an ongoing process taking place within the human soul. To the Maya, the day sign of the Vulture also represented departed spirits returning as butterflies or bees.

This day sign is associated with Vulture because the Vulture not only feeds on the remains of the dead, but also clears away the past. Vulture symbolically represents the purging of karmic patterns and the emergence of new thought. Vultures and Owls were also revered as great teachers and Keepers of Ancient Wisdom. According to Tony Shearer in Beneath the Moon and Under the Sun, “In a Mayan translation of this sign we learn that this day was a day of God, the Creator of All, when just before the end of the long 1144 year epic the Creator would come down and clean up all the filth and corruption on our Earth Mother, as the Sacred Buzzard cleans the filth from our highways and fields.” NOW is the time to clear out the past (forgive and forget) in order to harmonize with the new energies of the new cycle.

Carlos Barrios in The Book of Destiny states that Cib “is a favorable day to ask for and receive forgiveness, to manage harmony and discord, and to focus on the word, the message, ancestral lines, and the energy that emanates from living bodies, called an aura.”

Another representation of the Trecena is that of a creative wave beginning at 1 and ending at 13, with the numbers 6, 7 and 8 representing the crest of the wave. The crest could be interpreted as a strong influential energy, although the underlying influence on the Trecena would still rest in the beginning. In this Trecena, the crest falls on 6 Imix (Crocodile/Waterlily), 7 Ik (Wind) and 8 Akbal (Night/Hearth). Crocodile represents ancient primal forces and new beginnings. Wind is the spirit or chi energy that gives life to primal energy. Night represents the temple which houses the soul. The Cib trecena encourages us to clear out old habits and patterns. The energies available at the crest (new beginnings flowing in the wind influencing our spiritual house) will help us to attain a new level of awareness and new patterns of existence.

As we journey through each day of this Trecena:

Trecena Count
Gregorian Date
1 Cib (Vulture/Owl)
August 18, 2016
2 Caban (Earth)
August 19
3 Etznab (Flint)
August 20
4 Cauac (Storm)
August 21
5 Ahau (Sun)
August 22
6 Imix (Crocodile)
August 23
7 Ik (Wind)
August 24
8 Akbal (Night)
August 25
9 Kan (Lizard)
August 26
10 Chicchan (Serpent)
August 27
11 Cimi (Death)
August 28
12 Manik (Deer)
August 29
13 Lamat (Rabbit)

Utilize the energy of Cib to release old patterns which no longer serve in order to make way for new ideas and opportunities to emerge. Something has to be surrendered NOW in order for transformation to take place.

Spiritual Tour To Peru
A Sacred Journey from Palenque to Tikal

Travel with best-selling author and ancient temples researcher Freddy Silva & Maya master teacher Miguel Angel Vergara to the Maya sacred temples of Mexico and Guatemala.

The focal points of our adventure are the exquisite temple-cities of Palenque and Tikal. Both are remote and require a tad more effort to reach, yet the pilgrim is rewarded with a feast for the eyes and the soul. Tikal is a complete temple-city and features one of the highest pyramids in Central America, while Palenque contains some of the finest art and architecture of the region; the impressive panels of the Temple of the Inscriptions, together with the elaborately carved tomb lid of Pakal as the intermediary between earth and the Otherworld, is enough to lubricate the wheels of imagination and provoke the will to embark on a spiritual quest.

Wisdom / Cib

Greetings Kin,

We enter a new beginning under the guidance of Wisdom/CIB, the Day Sign that brings new wisdom and connects us to the Old Ones, the Ascended Masters who walked this way before. The glyph represents the the mind in a state of contemplation, reflection and forgiveness. The CIB trecena can clear the way for greater Spiritual progress and help us to manifest a transformation to Higher Consciousness.

CIB calls us to enter a time of personal reflection with the courage to look at ourselves and to re-examine our inner thoughts. As we make an honest assessment of both our strengths and weaknesses we are led to call on the Power of Forgiveness. As Humans, we all fall short and each deserve and need this forgiveness so we can move on from our past mistakes. CIB can bring the very Essence of Grace that is offered to those able to open their hearts to acknowledge where healing is needed.

Visit the Jaguar Spirit blog for additional insight on the Wisdom/CIB trecena, and return for the daily Tzolk'in energy forecast and inspiration from my personal Daykeeper’s Journal. Insight on personal ceremony is offered by author, Minisa Crumbo Halsey, sharing wisdom from the sacred Medicine Wheel tradition.
